Career mentorship. How important is it?

I am currently in a marketing firm and am thinking of how to level up to the next level as I aspire to become a marketing director.

I was told that having a mentor is very important in terms of career progression. How do I go about knowing a mentor to guide me?

Anyone can share with me how do I get a mentor?

Mentors comes in a lot of ways, some find them in their workplace, some find them through networking and some find them through platforms. Ultimately before you start searching for a mentor, it is important to list out what you actually need help with and then match the mentor to your needs.

Thanks @jxisabelle, this really helped me a lot. I always hear people talk about their mentors guiding them on how to do better. I think I should find one too, any ideas where such great mentors exists?
